Yehosha Shtampper was born in Hungary in 1852. He was the son of the local judge. He was one of the supporters of Zionism, a movement that supported the returning of Jews to Israel and establishing settlements and communities there, because it was the home of their ancestors. He, Yoel Moshe Salomon and other friends came to a swampy area, where they bought lands from Arabians and founded Petah Tiqwa, the first Jewish settlement in Israel that time. He died in 1908, and they named a street after him. His son became head of local council in Petah Tiqwa, and when it became a city, he became the first mayor.
