In 1876 the Turkish controlled the country. The Jewish people were afraid to leave Jerusalem and to live in another place. When Yoel Moshe Solomon and his expedition wanted to establish a new city all the people thought they were not sane, but they established Petah-Tikva. When the expedition came here the people saw a desolate place. There were a lot of swamps and no water or animals. Most of the people didn't want to establish the city there, but Yoel Moshe Solomon, the leader of the expedition, wanted to build the city there. When they founded the city the problems didn't end. The people were infected by the malaria because of the swamps. They worked very hard to stop the malaria. There was another problem: the ground was not good for farming, the people added fertilizer to the ground to make it better for farming. There were a lot of problems in Petah-Tikva, but the people were brave and lived there through the problems.
