Dr. Percy Julian, the famous chemist was born in Montgomery, Alabama in 1899. He majored in Chemistry and taught it as well. He taught until he decided to work alone. He is famous for being the first black Chemist and Chicago's Man of the Year. Percy Julian Middle School in Oak Park is named after the famous chemist because of his work in creating more than130 patents and the development of useful products for treating arthritis, glaucoma, and allergies.

Percy Julian was a scientist; he was born in 1899 in Alabama.
Percy had 5 brothers and sisters. His father was a railroad mail clerk.
He learned only 8 years because in his city it was the maximum for black people. He learned in DePauw in Indiana and got a job as a teacher at Fisk University.
His biggest contribution (to science) was in 1935, in this year he married Anna Johnson, then he moved with his family to Oak Park.
He had 130 patents.
Unfortunately he died on April 19 1975, he died of cancer.
